Bangor and North Down Camera Club

Chairman's Letter 2011 - 2012

Well, here we are again at the beginning of a new season and I greet all friends and members of Bangor and North Down Camera Club. To those of you who I haven't seen since the end of last seasons formal activities, I hope that you had a good summer and that you are suitably refreshed and ready for our new season. To those of you who came along on the informal Wednesday and Friday nights, I hope you learned plenty that you will be able to put to use in the coming months.

As in the past, we have had a number of visitors who turned up at these informal sessions and expressed an interest in joining the club. We extend a warm welcome to them all and look forward to seeing them at the forthcoming club meetings. At this point I would like to thank David Roberts and Mark Allen who, yet again, were the main men in these informal evenings.

The Summer outings have been well attended and, judging by the photos presented and the talk I hear, they seem to have been a great success. Not surprising given the organisers, David Best and Alan Hartley, with scones provided by Jack Thompson. All frightfully civilised. This year we were delighted to be joined by members of the Dungannon and Armagh camera clubs on a few or the trips.

Alan McMorris, our Exhibition Secretary, tells me that our Exhibition will be up and running at the Flagship Centre very soon, so get down there and view your work, and tell all your friends. This exhibition is always a means of broadcasting to the wider public, what we do here. The quality of work produced is very good and I believe we must show it off.

The programme sub committee, has again produced what looks like a wide and varied schedule of events for 2011-12. I thank the members of the sub committee for that. As usual, the NIPA competition categories have been incorporated into our own competitions. We are blessed with a considerable number of very talented photographers here, so lets continue to showcase that talent outside the club by increasing the numbers of entries in the competitions.

I would like to personally thank all the members of the committee who have been engaged in the preparation of the incoming season and look forward to working with them again as we progress through the year.

The first meeting of the club is Friday 2 September, and as has become the norm, we would like you to bring along a short, about 3 mins, AV presentation showing “your holidays”. Unfortunately, we can’t have Commercial work, weddings, portraits and the like, just your holiday snaps.

BNDCC is committed to encouraging the art of photography in all its forms and to developing the skills of its members at whatever level, I would like you all to look forward to the 2011-12 season with feelings of anticipation, commitment and most of all, enthusiasm.

Happy snapping,

Nigel Snell
Chairman
